Continuing in the direction of the first upgrades, the second set of modifications to our project is a full damper kit
performed by TEIN.
This damper kit consists of coilover struts and springs, with pillowball upper mounts. The coilovers have 16 adjustable
settings for bump and rebound travel (adjusts both settings together) as well as a seperate adjustment for ride height and
spring pre-load. In this way the ride height can be raised or lowered without effecting the suspension travel, allowing the
car to make full use of the suspension's range of movement. The spring rate for this kit is 8kg front and 6 kg rear,
an ideal setting for drifting, which emphasizes good handling and stable, responsive control. This is the TEIN Type
HE Winding Master coilover kit chosen for our project car.
The "D" in project S13-D begins to reveal itself.
With the new suspension in place, a perfect fit, the car handles as though it's on rails, with steering response so quick
I have to re-learn how to drive the car at speed. I do not have the opportunity to drive the car whenever I please, so I feel
as though I still have some ways to go to be as comfortable with the car as I did before. It's handling potential has been
raised, and in keeping with that, I must continue to improve myself as a driver. This suspension, designed to promote oversteer
and engineered for drifting perfomance amazes me. I love how my car handles and I look forward to every corner I meet. This
weekend I will try drifting the car a little, something I have avoided due to distractions, time constraints, and
school issues. I'm looking forward to having some time to myself to explore this "new" 240SX.
